Music at St. Paul's of Columbia University Presents:
1234- A Mostly American Contemporary Music Concert
Featuring eclectic contemporary works by Fred Hersch (piano solo), Alfred Schnittke (piano/violin duo, definitely not American), Carson Cooman (piano/cello/trumpet trio), and Rex Isenberg (piano/cello/violin/clarinet quartet).
Program includes a moving chamber work by Isenberg titled "An Angel at Dachau", scored for the same forces as Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. Cooman's "Lyric Trio" offers musical snapshots of American landscapes. A piano solo commissioned to Fred Hersch based on the jazz tune "'Round Midnight." And Schnittke who wrote a neo-classical piece in the traditional Baroque style, taken from his earlier film score about the adventures of a dentist.
